Rural enterprise development loans were rolled out in 2024 to promote the rural economy by offering consistent, transparent cheap and affordable loans as well as promoting the savings culture.

This loan product was introduced to address challenges of limited supply of credit and loans to rural communities and peri-urban areas and reluctance of banks to lend to rural SMEs and agribusinesses.

The objective of these loans is to unlock the rural economy through new businesses, start ups, SMEs in rural communities and to compliment Malawi Vision 2063, Pillar Number 1 and UN Sustainable Development Goals Number 2, Number 5, Number 8 and Number 10.

Using our digital technology platforms in the loan administration process we have been disbursing affordable loans to rural communities focussing on pro-poor, women and youth involved targeting the agribusiness value chain.
